    Your best bet is to buy a used factory original on Ebay.  Here's one:

    That depends on the remote,   

    which is why original remotes are Far better than any others for controlling things.                        

    And you can't select a specific function;   

    you have to take what the programmable remote offers. 



    The "codes" that are used to program remotes do only one thing: 

    They select one command set from many that are stored in the remote 

    when it is manufactured.        


    A command set is a lot like one flavour of soup on a store shelf 

    that also contains many other flavours.   

    Each is numbered, and you choose a number 

    that corresponds to the flavour you want.    


    The signal transmitted for any desired operation is an ingredient:  

    Volume Up might be compared to "celery" 

    while Channel Down might be compared to "carrots" 

    and Power might be compared to "chicken meat".   


    So, if Recording Speed is comparable to "peas", 

    the corresponding flavour of soup needs to have peas in it.   

    No peas, no speed selection.
