Does peri-urban and slums mean the same thing?
Like when relating to India or any other country

No - peri-urban just means around the city. Could be slums there, or not - or anything else. Slums is a type of neighborhood - poor or run-down buildings, poor people, typically.

Never heard the term and the dictionary says it's mostly used in Africa. Seems like it means "suburban" not "slums" like short for "perimeter of an urban area."
