Why do we have nightmares?

    Because we dream. Dreaming is a way for the brain to deal with our experiences. Some experiences during the day can be traumatic, and these experiences can cause nightmares because they are stored in our memory They are stored in memory because we benefit by trying to avoid similar dangers in the future.
