If a friend has given you food as a present,  will it be impolite if you ask him if it's expired ?

    Instead of thanking him you have insulted him .Know your basic manners .

    If a friend gives you food you thank him very much for the kind thought.  You read the label and if it's past its eat-ny date you chuck it in the bin and say nothing.  If it's still within the eat-by date - eat it.  If you aren't sure and you don't want to risk eating it, bin it and thank him for his kind thought.

    It's "would" it be impolite, not 'will'. And yes, it's rude to ask something like that. If your friend thought the food was spoiled, he wouldn't have given it to you as a present.

    Yes! Just wait till they've gone home and check the date for yourself. Asking would be rude beyond belief!
