Why did Netflix Cancel Bojack Horseman?

What benefit came from cancelling that great show so early when it could have lasted much longer?

I’ve read that the reason most shows on Netflix are canceled after a few seasons is because it’s cheaper for them to constantly make new things rather then make many seasons of one show and risk having to pay more to the creators and stars during contract renegotiation every few years. That said they ended on good terms, and Netflix has a history of bringing things back so maybe 5 or 10 years down the line they’ll do a sequel miniseries or something, the creator says he has ideas for more stuff but is fine taking a break for now.

Usually, shows are cancelled if the show starts getting too expensive to produce while the audience size shrinks over time. Hence why Netflix tends to cancel most of their less popular shows after 2-3 seasons.

Apparently, Netflix did tell the creators of Bojack Horseman that Season 6 was the final season, allowing them to write a proper finale.
