grams of sodium azide?

How many grams of sodium azide are needed to provide sufficient nitrogen gas to fill a 35.0 × 35.0 × 25.0 cm bag to a pressure of 1.11 atm at 21.0 °C?

    35.0 × 35.0 × 25 = 30625 cm^3 or 30.625 L

    Using the universal gas equation we have

    moles of N2 = 1.11 atm  * 30.625 L / 0.0820 L⋅atm⋅K−1⋅mol−1 * 294 K

    = 1.410 moles

    2NaN3 = 2Na+ 3N2

    moles of NaN3 needed for the given moles of N2 = 1.410 moles * 2 / 3

    = 0.940 moles of NaN3 = 0.940 * 65.00 g / mol = 61.1 g of NaN3
