Is South Africa historically a white country or black country ?

    It depends on what you mean, but South Africa has always been a majority black nation.

    From the beginnings of the colonial era (mid-1600's) until 1994 it was largely ruled by the white minority. 

    Throughout its history, there has been in- and out-migration of both black and white peoples, but blacks have always been a majority. 

    The 2011 census figures for these categories were Black South African at 76.4%, White South African at 9.1%, Coloured South African at 8.9%, Asian South African at 2.5%, and Other/Unspecified at 0.5%
