If aliens, millions of light years away, were studying Earth, would they think we were dinosaurs?

Update:

@ Pronk - And she said Kieth Richards was here before her!

@ CT - With diamonds?

@ LB He could wear a British policeman's helmet

@ UB - Present company excepted...

@ Robert - New to J&R?

@ bender - We all know that. In J&R you suspend reality and give an amusing answer. Check out the other ones.

@ BK - have you run out of TP?

Update 2:

@ Audrey - Surely not!

Update 3:

@ Phil - Very clever. But surely, they would call them a new species in their own language.

@ Fred - Hopefully, not Justin Bieber

@ ausblue - they would believe that we would be wiped out from stepping in front of cars

Update 4:

@ Elizabeth - have archeologists found the town of Bedrock yet?

@ Weasel - That's super, man!

@ Jack - Do they have dinosaurs, too?

Update 5:

@ LBM - Me too. Didn't I see you riding around on a diplodocus?

No. Did you never watch the Flintstones?

They'd see us using dinosaurs as cranes and earth movers ...

that would theoretically be correct .

Looking at stars millions of light  years away,  you are only seeing the light, that took millions of years to reach your eyes.

Therefore you are looking at something that existed millions of years ago, and may not even exist anymore.....like the planet Krypton, that blew up.

@RR: This wasn't posted in J&R when I originally answered it.

No, they would think the dinosaurs were dinosaurs.

(But I'm sure they'd have they're own name for them.)

Looking through a telescope over millions of light years is actually peering into the past because your seeing light that is millions of light years old.

If they could attain a resolution good enough to see lifeforms on the Earth, they wouldn't see humans at all, as you pointed out... they MAY see dinosaurs.

But they would know (as we do) that they were seeing into the past and would understand that what they see may not be what is taking place in real time.
