Yes, they can eat roast beef.

They can even eat bread, BUT it is better for them to eat whole-grain breads which digest more-slowly because of their fiber content and therefore do not cause their blood sugar levels to spike dangerously high.

In general those with diabetes have to pay attention to limiting sugar and starch intake, and increasing fiber content.

Half of every plate should be vegetables, and we do not include corn or potatoes in that since they are mostly starch and should be lumped in as the carbohydrate portion of the meal (1/4 of the plate).

just be careful of roast beef from a deli

Its not the beef as such- its the marinade or sauce they use to roast it in

just plain roast beef no problem - the only thing to worry about is "how much" of it

cos people in the US tend to eat FAR too much of everything

    (the other questions are?

which TYPE of diabetes? - type 1 or type 2 and how severe is it cos that will have a large bearing on how MUCH and WHAT you can eat

Ask your doctor for a list of how much YOU should limit yourself to cos that should apply specifically to YOU

Diabetics can eat ANY FOODS.  It's not the FOOD per se that is the problem--it's the AMOUNT, the frequency and the balance of the diet that counts more.

A diabetic should eat a well-balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and contains enough protein--they should eat regular meals that don't include a lot of processed foods. They should eat sensible portions--not huge ones. There aren't a lot of foods a diabetic should not eat--but anything that contains a great deal of sugar, salt and carbohydrates should be LIMITED. You can learn more about how a diabetic should be eating by going to the American Diabetes Association website.

Beef has zero sugar so is OK [but choose leaner cuts if you have been told by a doctor, nutritionist or nurse to reduce your weight]. Bread is a carb which converts to sugar [a simpler carb] so needs to be restricted.

  • Pretty much zero carbs in roast beef, so great for a diabetic (type 1 or 2). Bread, not so much for type 2 (type 1 just has to use the right amount of insulin in order to eat bread). If the type 2 diabetic is obese, then a fatty roast beef may not be ideal either.
