If the virus has killed one million people is it fair to assume that the lockdown has killed 10 million people?

The virus isn't even real, the lockdown kills more with job loss and hunger.

Not at all. There haven't been many deaths in the United States that can be directly attributed to the lockdown. That isn't to say that people aren't struggling. There is joblessness, homelessness, and poverty in general, but those aren't necessarily going to kill you, at least not right away. People who find themselves out of work or evicted from there homes turn to friends and family. In addition there are safeguards in place such as homeless shelters, food pantries, and other such government assistance programs.

In other countries, however, it may be another story. India, for example, has reported deaths directly resulting from strict lockdown measures; meaning people have literally died from starvation or lack of essential medicines like insulin. The social welfare systems weren't strong enough to support these individuals. But given how large and dense the population is, the alternative would have been far worse.

There are countries that have successfully locked down, effectively combating the spread of covid, and still managed to protect their citizens from poverty, homelessness, and starvation; South Korea, New Zealand, and Ghana being good examples. They nipped the pandemic in the bud, before it was out control.

And that brings us back to the United States. We never had a full and proper lockdown, the disease has spread all over the country, and now more than 200,000 people are dead. Not only did we never go into a full lockdown, we're actually going in the other direction by reopening schools and businesses, prolonging this pandemic longer than it needs to. And the longer this pandemic lasts, the more people who are unemployed and homeless are at risk of actually dying.
