2010s-2020 parallels of the 1960s?

1960s.

Mass protests & Riots.

Political division.

The long active Vietnam war.

Hong Kong Flu 1968-1969 claimed over 100,000 Americans (which was a lot for America at that time, since the population was half of what it is today).

Rise of militias, on both parties.

Nixon Was a controversial president.

2010s-2020.

Mass protests & Riots.

Political division.

Long active Afghanistan war.

Coronavirus 2019-2020 so far claimed over 200,000 Americans, still rising.

Rise of militias on both parties.

Trump is a controversial president.

Yes it's 57 years since the assassination of JFK, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 11.22.63 and it's not only the rise of Early Sixties Conservatives, it's worse: the rise of Thirties style fascism. So you have a Guernica kind of situation with a fascist dictator telling his White Supremacist Extremists the Proud Boys to stand by. Everything is at stake.

No...the only common thread is the socialist / communist agenda being pushed.

Though the 1960s-70s had good music and movies, it was a a down point in America history.

Yes, it's scary how close it parallels to the 60s

I can't think of anything to add but there are some differences. Although the social unrest was race related in both, the 60s included war protests. The economy was basically good in the 60s. It started to fluctuate/get unstable in the 70s. The economy is at recession levels today. The 4 biggest issues that usually define a presidency are, the economy, war, personal health and social unrest. Trump has maxed out 3 of 4.

    Bit US-centric.

But even an idiot could see some superficial parallels.

Certainly the long struggles terrorism and with state brutality in the Middle East and North Africa have had an effect on the local populations at least as bad as the Vietnam War.
