How to recognize drum unit in canon printer?

    You go to an office supply store or even the cannon site and look for the replacement part. Use the printer model number. Look at the picture and then see if you can find the part in your unit.

    Now here is an old fashion trick that might work- get out the documentation for the printer and read it. It might be in PDF format and on a disk that came with the unit. If all else fails- go to the Canon site and get the documentation in PDF format. Get software to open it (Adobe comes to mind, a free down load). Some where there will be instructions on how to replace this part of the printer and very likely the part number.

    It is the shiny, usually green or blue, roller inside the toner cartridge. Most laser printers no longer use a separate drum.
