why do poachers have to kill elephants for ivory if they could just farm them or find elephant graveyards?

Better still, use the stone Onyx,  which has identical carving properties but does not endanger anything, and comes in better sizes too!!!!!!!!

farming elephants would take too long, their gestation period is about 2 years and then it takes even longer for the baby to grow up and develop tusks, and harvesting from already dead elephants doesn't meet the demand for ivory. poachers don't care about the animals, so it's just easier to kill them than to try and harvest ivory without hurting them

Mainly because activist groups would be against breeding and raising for ivory.

Elephants don't propagate well in captivity anyway.

Poaching is just sad no matter what the animal and most places have strict laws against it. Possessing a tusk will get you jail time and hefty fine.

Because it is illegal to buy or sell ivory in most countries around the world. Ivory are mostly sold in the black market. Most poachers are either criminals or they are poor people who try to stay alive by selling the ivory they poach to criminals.

Which is cheaper, raising elephants or an elephant gun and bullets? Poachers poach because they don't have enough money to make a living otherwise. Besides, have YOU ever found an elephant graveyard? I thought not. They don't exist.

Because they have no legal way of getting enough income, and aren't rich enough to buy stuff to sedate the elephant

    Nobody "farms" elephants

farming takes land and time. To find graveyards takes research and searching.

    Killing takes only minutes.
