Who was the more harder opponent - the Japanese in 1941-45 or the Vietnamese in 1964-73?

    Apples and Oranges....and one had a real "Blue Water" Navy.

    In WW2 Politicians didn't force the US Military to "fight" a defensive war with their hands tied behind their backs.

    -  when "fighting" a defensive war, the best possible outcome you can expect is a stalemate.

    - though the US DID win by the numbers, 58k vs 1.1m casualties and South Vietnam did not fall until 2 yrs after the withdrawal of US Combat troops.
