    I was told those are water bugs, they look like big mosquitoes but they aren't and they don't bite.

    It is a Crane Fly or 'Daddy Longlegs' to kids. (UK).

    Crane Fly.  It may look like a giant mosquito but it does not bite and many do not eat at all during their 10 days as an adult.

    If i know my jungle lore correctly. That's a female mosquito, the male one has shorter limbs. It can transmit malaria, dengue, zika and horny jungle fever.
