Engineering is not necessarily related to the operation of an aircraft.

    The same with a computer.

Most probably that depends on where in the world you train and what sort of aircraft you want to fly.

The pilot who I know most recently is a retired police narcotics officer. He also taught in flight school some. No engineering. He doesn't fly jets, though.

In the U.S., anybody can be a airplane pilot with proper certification (going through flight school and passing various tests). You don't need a college education, but you do need to have reading skills and a pocket full of money.

Ship/boat pilots, certifications are dependent on tonnage.
