Is breathing Freon from an AC leak harmful?

    It can be, but if you inhaled enough to be an issue, you wouldn't have been able to post this question.

    As a general rule breathing anything except air, is harmful.

    the amounts are minute ... don't do it on purpose and you're fine

    If it a big enough leak that it will harm you it would be a short period of time because it be a big leak an wouldn't take long to leak.  

    Bout the only thing I'd worry about is if your refrigerant has propane in it.  Unfortunately they allow that type to be used in residential.

    Depends if the leak is on the inside or the outside.  

    Glad mine is not leaking at all and that my air works great.

    Might be a good idea to not smoke around air conditioning units.

    Freon replaces the oxygen, so in enclosed spaces it could be harmful. Freon has some other properties that would make it ill advised, to directly breath it in. It can also cause damage if the leak is directly on skin, depending on the type.

    Under normal circumstances where a leak develops in a system inside or out, open the windows and you'll be fine.  Small leaks are barely worth discussing, like ones that need to be recharged every year. No big deal as far as health goes.
