How do I fix hair color that doesn't show up?

So I colored my (naturally very dark brown, almost black) hair yesterday (for the 6-7th time in my life), but it doesn't show at all except at my hairline. It doesn't stand out in such a way that I'd have to cover it up. But I want it to show up. It's such a pretty color and doesn't seem to be a shade that would fake into the dark natural color. What do I do to fix this? I'm willing to use something to just lighten my hair and try to bring the color out, etc. I just want a different hair color than my natural (which is totally grown out since my last coloring) Thanks!

Update:

I sure would, "Fireplace", if I could afford it ... which is why I bought boxed color in the first place :) Thanks much
