Can Trump win the popular vote?

Probably not.  The only time a Republican has won the popular vote in the last 30 years was in 2004 when George W Bush, still riding the lingering popularity of his response to 9/11, managed to barely win the popular vote.  In 2016, Trump got less of the vote than John  Kerry did when he lost to Bush in 2004.  As President Trump has never, at any point in his presidency, had a 50% or more approval rating.  That's a first for a President in the history of modern polling.  The current polling shows him about 8-9 points behind Biden.  It would be highly unusual if he won the popular vote.  In fact, word from Republican insiders is that they fully expect Trump to lose the popular vote, even if he ebnds up winning reelection.
