Before covid if someone was suspected of having mumps or mono were they required to wear a mask before they got tested in America? Was it ?

Ever required in the past for contagious diseases?

    YES. Mask-wearing was a nationwide standard during the Spanish flu pandemic. Also during typhoid epidemics in several major cities.

    We have a vaccine for mumps.  We don't have one for covid.  That's the reason why all these behavioral measures have been taken, like social distancing and mask wearing.  Covid is comparatively lethal in relation to things like the flu, and we don't have any way of controlling its spread other than changing our behaviors. 

    But masks have been use to prevent diseases.  They were used in many places, including America, during the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak.  Masks were widely used even before covid in many parts of East Asia as a way to help check the spread of the flu.

    Mumps and mono are not as contagious as corona viruses.
