Do American people treat Japanese people as Japanese?

    I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

    By and large Americans treat actual Japanese citizens as Japanese. I mean, what else would they treat them as?

    Japanese-Americans, however, often seem to get treated simply as Asian-Americans, and lumped in with those of Korean or Chinese descent.

    How else might you expect Americans, or Britons, etc to treat Japanese people?
