i don't make enough to have federal withholding from my pay.  will i owe year end?

    Assuming you filled out your W-4 withholding form properly, including the effect of any investment income, you should end up having little or no tax due at the end of the year.  (But there are many circumstances where people find it too confusing or complex to fill out the W-4 "properly," so they are surprised by their year-end tax bill.)

    Your taxes are calculated on your total income for the year.

    Assuming that you are Single and an employee (SS and Medicare are withheld), you can make up to $12,400 for 2020 before you will owe any federal taxes.
