Why do some german Partzip 2 can use Haben & Sein?

I'm confused which one would I use.

Such verbs like augestanden can use both. Help please!

    There probably was a logical reason for it some centuries ago.

    You do understand the difference between "ich bin verändert" and "ich habe verändert", right?

    Both mean "I've changed" but the latter requires an object
