will the NFL fall apart financially as we know it today ?

    I doubt it.  And since you don't really know the NFL financials, it will be hard to compare.

    No. The NFL can take a 70% viewership hit and still be profitable. Plus most their TV contracts are already cemented for another 3-5 years, plenty of time to bounce back as the older generation that's boycotting slowly dies off and is replaced by more young people.

    Millions have stopped watching this shitshow.  The NFL is deader than Joe Biden's brain.

  • If it does, then the global economy won't exist because you'll have a global depression.  Which would make the Trump supporters happy given their delight at their country being in a recession with no end in sight given their love of death and suffering.  I mean, they'll be in the same boat but maybe destroying everything (including their own country) was what they've always wanted to do. 

    Math: A majority of the NFL's revenue (just over 50%) comes from TV deals that have several years left on them.  It insulates them from playing games in empty stadiums better than other sports that are more dependent on ticket sales (only 15.5% of NFL revenue comes from ticket sales).  The rest comes from licensing deals, sponsorship revenue and merchandise sales.  Most of this is largely stable with minimal variance.  Good luck using 'NFL' in any business context and not getting billed.  Bars may be dropping 'Sunday Ticket' but home subscriptions are up.  

    TV networks (all publicly-traded companies with shareholders and a board of directors) have advertising sales (which helps them pay those rights deals) largely baked in because NFL games are consistently the most-watched programs in America in any given year.  If companies don't want to advertise on the most-watched shows (2020 is largely done and paid for) from 2021 onward, then you're looking at a global great depression (Thanks Trump!).  

    Consider that FOX walked away from a multi-year USGA rights deal (NBC has taken it over) that had another 6 years to go because they didn't want to give up one weekend of NFL programming and their USGA contract mandated that Saturday/Sunday coverage be on free-to-air television.  Literally we're talking about ONE DAY (Sunday) due to a re-arranged golf schedule and golf audiences being reliably stable (and a high-dollar demographic that advertisers LOVE).  Whatever you may think, that's FOX bean counters and analysts at work looking at their company's bottom line.

    So yes- you and a few thousand Trump supporters (and a bunch of Russian trollbots) may be 'boycotting' the NFL but their financial model has dealt with far worse.

    Not likely, largely because the NFL "as we know it today" is built on a very different model than the league envisioned by the "blue blood" owners like the Maras, the Rooneys and the Hallassas...

    Today's NFL is basically a media company made up of different marketing arms rather than a competitive league made up of individual teams. Just as Disney today is nothing like its "Mickey and Goofy" roots but is still a multi-billion dollar enterprise.... the NFL (so far at least) is moving forward with plans to make billions even with no fans in the stadiums and little distinction between the teams.

    The NFL's focus has clearly shifted on being a selling platform.  Notice how all the teams' coaches are wearing the same hats and sweatshirts....notice how all the players are wearing the same headphones...notice how the billboards in the stadiums all advertise the same products...

    The league's financial success now seems more tied to selling other people's products (via advertising and marketing deals) than it's own (the quality of the games on field)... So long as that's the case they just need to broadcast something sellable to a TV audience.  If the teams aren't interesting they'll just hype the players....if the games aren't interesting, they'll just hype the manufactured "drama"...

    ...and those raised on 5-second soundbytes, video games and music videos will likely continue to eat it all up....
