How do you find purpose in a purposeless universe? ?

How you find purpose after discovering nihilism and realizing that life is meaningless because

Life is unfair

Life gravitates towards suffering

You will die someday

Happiness is ultimately a delusion to distract us from the fact that life is pointless

    By getting a clue.

If one believes that minds exist, then one must believe that purpose exists.

The fact that life can be seen as unfair is proof that meaning exists. If a nice and more qualified person getting passed up for a promotion that they deserve while a two-faced incompetent person gets the promotion were meaningless, it wouldn't be seen as fair or unfair.

Life doesn't gravitate towards suffering; it gravitates towards pleasure. Suffering is unpleasant so that life will be motivated to avoid it. If suffering were meaningless, life wouldn't survive.

The fact that I will die some day makes the ability to think and act now, while I'm still alive, more precious and meaningful.

Happiness isn't a delusion. A delusion is a perception that disregards evidence to the contrary. Happiness is a pleasant feeling of satisfaction at having achieved or attained something that is needed or desired.

If your assumptions were true, then there is no purpose to be found, but many would question whether that is the only choice available. By itself, the universe may seem to offer nothing, but theuniverse is an environment and it has room for almost anything and everything. The choice is yours. Also, life is a state of being, but, if you do not seek out opportunity and only expect disappointment, you will make your life unfair and unpleasant. While life is a temporary condition because every human dies, it is up to each of us to decide what purpose we would like for ourselves. Life need not gravitate toward suffering, but every person faces a universal end... death. Our challenge is to decide what purpose we wish to adopt until that time (death) comes. If only for that brief time (while we are alive), happiness is within our grasp. It is up to each person whether they wish to grab it (happiness) or whether they want to feel sorry for her/himself, knowing that it (life) must end, although no one knows exactly when and how, save those who choose to take their own lives. By presence alone, each person makes a difference just by living, but it is each person who decides whether that difference will be positive, negative, or neutral. Once that decision is made, each person is free to purpose her/his goal.

Wow... you do so need to see a therapist...

Life is not unfair nor fair, it just is

Life does not gravitates towards suffering, it gravitates towards survival.

    You will die someday... so?

Happiness is ultimately a delusion is only believed by people who have a real problem with reality.

life is only pointless to those who do not understand what is meant by life.

Probably by loving:  loving God, self, family, even vocation.  And at least we know we're not alone:  https://www.hawaii.edu/news/2020/09/14/hints-of-li...

Our purpose is to get to know and serve our Creator and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and to get prepared for eternity.  There are answers in the Bible.  I suggest that you read the New Testament, starting with the Gospel of John.

  • Purpose, if it can not be found, can always be created.  I prefer the latter method anyways as it allows for choice in the matter.

    a) There are at least seven types of Nihilism, and not all of them give de-facto support to the idea that the universe has no purpose or that life has no meaning. Do yourself a favor and learn the different types (Wikipedia is helpful here) so that you actually know what you're talking about. What you are referring to is called EXISTENTIAL NIHILISM, so in future try to refer to it that way.

    .

    b) Existential Nihilism is a point of view, not a proven or provable fact. It makes an assumption without proof which makes it no different from those who claim there is a god but cannot provide proof. Two sides of the same basic coin - i.e. making claims that cannot be proved. All you can claim is that life MIGHT be meaningless.

    .

    c)  A true existential nihilist must also believe that life is neither fair nor unfair. To believe life is unfair contradicts the tenet that life has no meaning.

    e)  Likewise, if you think that life is pointless, then your question and any answer you get cannot be anything but pointless too.  You cannot have your cake and eat it too, as the saying goes. If life really is meaningless, then nothing you do or experience in life can have any meaning.. Asking proves that you believe there might be a meaningfuil answer out there somewhere, or you wouldn't have bothered.

    .

    f) All life dies, but death itself is not suffering. Some may suffer along the way to their deaths, but many people and many other living organisms suffer little or not at all up to the point of death. In otherwords, you are casting a false and unnecessarily pessimistic generalization.

    .

    g) So get over yourself and your silly beliefs. What you believe is not truth, it is MERE OPINION  and opinions can change. Here, spend an hour and watch this highly entertaining animation called "The Point". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1SARG4wC_8

The true meaning of human life is.... Self Realization. Love /hate, Good/evil, happiness/sorrow, positive/ negative, virtue/sin, soul/ body, heaven /hell.. are the creations of God.... So, by pure faith in God we can understand our eternal nature... which relates to our soul as our soul is the Part and Parcel of.... Supreme Soul...."God" ... Actually, we are spiritual souls but we are in human body. We are from the spiritual world. God has sent us on the earth...only for self realization.. as our souls are not as pure as, they have to be... So, God has given us human life where our body feels happiness as well as suffers pain. Therefore, we souls are here... to achieve... the level of purity and to become pure soul.... we should make an effort to understand the deeper meaning of unconditional love for all living beings.... in every situation...

Moreover, the eternal nature of our soul is to Love God...

“There is something infantile in the presumption that somebody else has a responsibility to give your life meaning and point… The truly adult view, by contrast, is that our life is as meaningful, as full and as wonderful as we choose to make it.”
