I fled my husband at first sight. Wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. Didn't even want to be anything more than civil, if that. One look and I wanted NOTHING to do with him. There was just something about him that told me right off the bat that if I let him in my life he would change it. And I'd worked hard to set my life up like I wanted to with my own place, my own choices, my own timeline, my own everything. Years previously I'd lived with a man for 6 years who was 100% about him. Everything in our lives revolved around him. When we split, I relished the me me me of designing a life that I'd never really had. I'd been on my own since 17 but so much of that was survival that I, at 21, easily eased into the comfort of survival not being in the forefront at all times. Rather a mistake looking back on it. So! No way was I going to let another clearly alpha dominate man in my life. NO WAY. I knew at first sight I needed to keep this guy AWAY. Took him 4 months to convince me to go on a date. After our first kiss, on our first date, I've never dated or seriously noticed another man again. We've been partners and lovers and spouses for 37 years now. But I FOUGHT IT! Until I allowed myself to crack open the cage I'd built around me.

I've felt that same feeling multiple times, and I was completely wrong each time. It's not a reliable feeling, and typically it's based on momentary feelings and emotions or hormones, and not based on reality. That doesn't mean that YOUR feeling for this person is wrong or not based on reality, it just means that TYPICALLY those feelings are not reliable or accurate.

It took longer than you say. But three months after I met her I knew that this is how I wanted to spend every day for the rest of my life. Yes, I married her. I have been with her for 50 years now. And I was right. This IS how I want to spend every day of my life.

Some people have reported "love at first sight" and their experience has led to happy marriages. They are in the minority, however, and getting to know someone very , very well, first, is really advisable, even if you feel this way.
