Is there any more evidence for John the Baptist being a prophet than there is for Joseph Smith?

I wouldn't say there's terribly good evidence for either. But, there's better evidence that Joseph Smith was a charlatan. We've got better records of who he actually was and verifiable reports of his own words, even papers written directly by him. We can look at his direct claims about Native Americans writing in "reformed Egyptian" and the like and see where they turned up as nonsense.
With John, we're more into the areas of unfalsifiable claims.
