Is it bad to drink coffee while pregnant?
Can I drink a small amount of coffee while pregnant? Like one cup a day? Or is it best to avoid it altogether like fish? Also, if coffee is bad what can it do to an unborn fetus? Thank you.

It is recommended that pregnant women not have more than 200 to 300 mg of caffeine per day. Coffee has caffeine as do many other drinks. You would need to check the amount of caffeine in the coffee of your choice and then be sure your total daily intake of caffeine isn't too high. There are also caffeine free or caffeine reduced choices for coffee. If you pick a caffeine free coffee, then you don't need to track how much you have.
So, coffee is not the real problem. CAFFEINE is the problem. You should also be drinking caffeine free choices for any other drinks you consume during the day. https://www.marchofdimes.org/pregnancy/caffeine-in...
As for fish, the problem with fish is the risk of mercury contamination from wild caught fish sources. You can eat fish if you trust the source of the fish. Fresh fish that was farm grown is a great choice and you can still have that.

Just drink decaffeinated coffee.
You don't need to avoid fish altogether.

You don't need to avoid either coffee or fish (including sushi). 200-300mg of caffeine a day is considered safe for pregnant women, and there is absolutely no reason you can't eat fish. Just mostly avoid high-mercury/high-contaminant fish like mackerel, and have no more than 3 servings a week. If you like sushi, then just make sure it is prepared fresh and from a trusted source.

You should not be asking here but discussing this with your physician.
However, most OB-Gyns I know of think a cup of coffee per day isn't a problem. There have never been any conclusive studies showing a link between caffeine and some problem in the fetus, but just to be on the safe side, limit the amount you drink or choose decaf.
Only certain types of fish should be avoided during pregnancy. Otherwise, you SHOULD be eating fish, since it is quite a healthy food for a pregnant woman to consume. See below.
And talk all this over with your doctor. This is not the place to get serious advice.
