Is the Universe eternal?

Update:

Thanks for the answers, everyone.

Well, almost everyone.Note that Yahoo automatically chose the category for this question, so to the person who answered about HONEST vs DISHONEST, your answer was off base.To those who answered that the universe is not eternal but "The Cosmos is eternal," the Cosmos simply means the ordered universe, the opposite of chaos, so your answer makes no sense. How can the ordered universe exist before & after the unordered universe?

No, not according the second law of thermodynamics, which "coincidentally" dovetails with the scripture below.

    Romans 8:21

that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

The second law in effect states that everything trends toward disorder and decay.  (See vid below.)

At this time, nobody knows, but it does seem that the earth might be moving closer to the sun by a hair each year.  The temperature on earth will then become to hot for man in many places, and earth may become uninhabitable by man and many animals.

The universe is not but the Cosmos (all that is) would be, because energy is eternal since it cannot be created, nor destroyed. Energy can only convert into other forms of energy and the Big Bang was one such energy conversion that "began" this system known as the universe. If this system is "closed", meaning no further energy is transferred from the Cosmos to this system, it will equalize in potential and die out as a system. Some refer to this as heat death, but without potential in a system, it loses the structure that defined it as a system and will just be reabsorbed by the Cosmos.

All created things are not eternal. Only God is eternal. God is an ever existing eternal supreme being. All human beings are created beings. (The word 'created' is self-explanatory.) That doesn't comes under natural way of life. Humans are not natural but unnatural beings. I mean humans are just robots made of flesh and bones. There may be several eternal beings which knew neither death nor birth and God must be the chief of these eternal beings. IN FACT THIS IS THE REAL EVER EXISTING PHENOMENON. Human beings can think only like human beings. Their thoughts and intelligence are limited. To know and discover more they must come out of what religions and people have created in their minds and think freely and independently.

No, even science attributes age to the universe. Eternity is ageless.

No. No natural entity is eternal. Our universe came into existence at a point in time, in fact, the first point in time, and will eventually cease to exist at another point in time.

HONEST people ask Science questions in the appropriate Science section.

DISHONEST people ask Science questions in R&S, because they don't WANT an actual answer based on Science.

Thank you for making it so clear which kind of asker you are.

At this time, we don't know is the only actual answer.

Yes.  Its expansion is accelerating.  There will never be a Big Crunch or a Big Freeze.

It is whatever you think of it.

How you view a thing, is what it becomes.

The energy that makes up our universe is eternal, although time may be circular.
