How is it possible for hurricanes to travel on land?

A storm has a lot of inertia and it is called a hurricane because of the direction of rotation and velocity of the winds. They form over water, but do not have to be over water to display those two characteristics.

Hurricanes are weather and weather happens on land and sea. Landfall helps to slow them down, but they most certainly do cause damage often far from the sea.m
