Was there much difference to being a share  cropper or a slave after the Civil Wars?

I heard they were bonded to the land owner because they signed contracts paying for the huts they lived in

The difference is that no 'slaves' existed after the American Civil War because slavery was abolished.

You could leave your land and go elsewhere if you wanted, also, you kids could get jobs where they wanted.

  • Share Cropping was voluntary  the was no slave master with a whip and they shared the crop
