hp laptop cd/dvd drive stuck?

my cd/dvd drive suddenly stopped working and doesn't seem to be detected on the laptop anymore and won't open with a cd stuck inside. How can I fix it and get the cd out?

    Restart the computer

Look for the small hole on the faceplate of the disc drive

Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the manual release hole until resistance is felt

Press in gently on the paper clip until the tray is released.

Use a straightened paper clip in the tiny hole, as others have said. That releases the mechanical latch and enables you to take the disk out.  One the disk is out, let the drive close. Now see if it's recognised. A reboot may be helpful here. If no joy, it sounds like the drive has failed and needs to be replaced. They're surprisingly cheap.

Paper Clip --  Tiny Hole on CD/DVD tray.  Push Paper Clip into hole to release the tray.

If your still rocking a laptop with a disc drive, it should have failed by now

All CD/DVD drives have a release on the front of the tray.  It is a tiny hole.  Put a long slender stiff wire (straightened paper clip) in there and press until the tray pops out a little.

As far as not found in device manager, restart from cold off, see if better.  If not, contact HP for support on your laptop.
