"these sentenceS", not "sentence".  "sentence" is singular (one), "sentences" is plural (more than one).  This is required in English.

Not really, no. "Old history" is redundant. "If you read this book you'll learn about the history of your city".

    I would write it...

"If you read this book, you can learn the history of your city"

"If you read this book, you can learn the history of my area"

    '

'Learn' sounds more appropriate than 'know'

"Old' seems redundant as all history is 'old' .  But I also understand that some history is much older than recent history.
