A soldier had no opportunity of having sex with the enemy forces, so there was no choice but to have it with your own side, if you had to have sex.

If you were a gay in either army, you  kept quiet about it. Nances and Mollies were persecuted and harassed. Practicing homosexuals had ways of finding each other and having sex in privacy. If they didn't, perhaps "self sex" in a quiet spot helped. Heterosexuals with the urge sexed themselves too.

(To call the Union Army "the Army of Northern Aggression" shows you are not a dispassionate history buff. Is there something  Freudian about  the word "aggression" in your question about sex lives? A longing for a man in blue? A passivity apparent in gay men in grey?)

Homosexuality was largely closeted. Either army would have considered gay activity a counterproductive disgraceful diversion f/ the business at hand. On the other hand, heterosexuality was an understood desire. See the history of union general Joseph Hooker. Interestingly, there were rumors about Lincoln's sexuality stemming f/ his "nancy" bedfellow.

You would have got a musket ball to your ballz, and a 2nd musket ball to your forehead.

The confederate terrorists weren’t an army. They were a bunch of lunatics like isis who were doomed from the start.
