    Any and all unemployment benefits must be reported on tax returns. Whether you will owe tax depends on info I don't have about you.

    Unemployment benefits have been taxable since Reagan's tax overhaul.  Nothing has been said about the additional benefit being tax free.

    Unemployment is taxable income, yes.

    Yes they are.  Taxes can be withheld at 10%, however there's no withholding on the $600 pandemic portion.

    there is nothing called unemployment subsidies.

    Unemployment is called officially called unemployment insurance.

    The amount the recipient receives is an insurance payment.  This money is taxable unearned income.

    State and Federal unemployment insurance taxes nicknamed SUI & FUI is a tax.
