Ivy League schools have very low acceptance rates. Harvard’s under 6%.   They have plenty of applications from students who have been exceptional all four years of high school.

Chances are your competition will take you out of the running.

Besides high grades and SAT scores , they look for student who have leadership positions in everything they do. Students who are unique, outstanding.

It depends on what you mean by bad. Grades are a primary consideration, so that could definitely hurt your chances.  You have a lot of time to make up for bad grades though, so you may still have a chance - again, depending on how bad.  But the Ivy League schools are exceptionally selective, so you'll be at a distinct disadvantage when compared against the applicants with perfect grades (and there will be a lot of those applicants).

Spread your studying out.  Do a little each day.  Review your class work each evening even if you don't have actual homework.  Find what strategies work for you - for some, it's copying down notes, for others it's making flash cards, etc.
