Why does it feel so different in southern Utah than it does in California?

California covers 16 of the USDA's 20 climate zones.

    Southern Utah covers 4.

Wherever you are in southern Utah, there will be some place in California that feels the same.  Perhaps if you were a bit more specific about which part of California feels different?

"In" California? Eureka? Redding? San Francisco? San Jose? Monterey? San Luis Obispo? Santa Monica? Los Angeles? Riverside? Oceanside? San Diego? Which part of California are you comparing southern Utah with?
