Strange noises upstairs when I'm home alone?

Sounds like laughs and whispers but nothing there when I go check

Welcome to auditory pareidolia (pare-ih-DOH-lee-uh), where you hear sounds that aren't there, like the phone ringing while you're in the shower. It includes hearing patterns in random background noises that your brain interprets as music or conversation. Common sources include fans, wind, air conditioners, white-noise generators and the drone onboard a plane.

Certain pitches of noise are worse than others for me. I once lived in a place where the furnace fan was a flute playing the same three notes over and over, real slow.
