How far back do genetics play a role in those living today?

If I was born in 1985, what is the likelihood that I would have behavior/personality traits or share a striking resemblance to one of my ancestors who lived in 1885?

    Probably a couple of generations.

My friend has a son in his 20s. He has dark curly hair and a light beard.

When her grandmother died and they were clearing the house, she found some old photos taken in the 1890s. One of which was her grandmother's grandfather as a young man....he was the exact image of her son...same hair, same patchy beard.... It was almost creepy.

100 years is about 4 generations.  Only 1/16th of your genetics would be from each ancestor.  So any resemblance would be mostly coincidence.

Repost in biology which deals with genetics........... genealogy is about researching ancestors via written records to build a family tree
