Why are unions frowned upon by the right?

  • What the Republicans are against is not Unions but the collective vote to the Democrat party that they work hand in hand with. They give the Democrats the vote and a lot of money from their members. The Democrats give the union bosses special powers to keep them alive. If you look at the failed public school system it is unions of incompetents and laws from Democrats that keep competition from cutting in on their monopoly.

No one has ever been able to explain to me why I should rent my job from a third party.  No one has been able to explain to me why I should pay for the privilege of working somewhere.  Labor unions are the second most corrupt organizations in the world.  The first is our federal government.  If unions are so great, why do they need to use "Vinnie an' da boyz" to strong arm people to vote for them?

Because of rhetoric, is the answer. The Republicans feature themselves as conservatives (the right). Republicans support big businesses and the wealthy more than the Democrats as a whole. Unions are bad for big business and rich people. Therefore, Republicans hate unions, but Republicans are supported by the Right Wing, so they point to the issues about unions, and ignore that the working class as a whole does better as unions.

Unions have declined over the years, and are mostly in cities (Democrats).

So in the Them vs Us rhetoric is THEY support unions and WE don't.

Unions do have dues, so the Republicans put in legislation in states that you don't have to join (Right to Work). They point to union corruption that occurred. They point to the collapse of some companies with powerful unions.

The rank and file traditional working class Republicans USED to be in unions. But the unions were taken away. Instead they want worker supply-demand. The parents of middle aged conservatives were often union workers, now with union pensions.

In reality, although unions have flaws, they are better for workers overall. And, most Republicans are workers rather than owners or management or wealthy business people, but the Party convinces the people that unions are no good, never talking benefits and only talking bad things.

Think about it a minute. Walmart is the largest private employer and is non-Union. Many of the workers are on food stamps and Obamacare. The government is subsidizing this low wage worker company as Walmart is $366 Billion in stock to the owners and earned $15 billion over a recent year.

In anything we can list good and bad. The right is now listing the bad and ignoring the good because that is what Republican politicians say, and Republicans are conservative Right. So, because of the rhetoric is the answer.

The right claims to be in favor of a free market, and in a free market workers should be free to collectively bargain.  But right wingers usually hate unions because they're not so much in favor of the free market as they are pro-business.  They think that businessmen are good and talented people and should be as unfettered by constraint as possible to operate within the marketplace.  By allowing workers to more effectively bargain, unions reduce the comparative power of employers and thus run afoul of right wing notions of how employer employee relationships should operate in the marketplace.

If you consider the associations of the past.   Communists: Worker arise,  throw off your chains.   In the USA it was Communists who were very active in the formation of unions.   They saw it as the workers arising.   If you consider the Democrats are being closer to the Communists than are the Republicans then unions tend to be supporters of the Democrats and their welfare/socialist views.   Communists on the left,   non-communists on the right.   It is a basic philosophical view.
