Why did the United States get involved in World War I?

To begin, the Zimmermann Telegram is mostly propaganda. It "exposed" Germany's plans to involve Mexico in the war with the United States- BUT...the offer that was made to Mexico was ONLY IN THE EVENT THAT THE UNITED STATES BECAME INVOLVED.

"We shall endeavor in spite of this (unrestricted submarine warfare) 𝒕𝒐 π’Œπ’†π’†π’‘ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘Όπ’π’Šπ’•π’†π’… 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 π‘¨π’Žπ’†π’“π’Šπ’„π’‚ 𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍. 𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 π’•π’‰π’Šπ’” 𝒏𝒐𝒕 π’”π’–π’„π’„π’†π’†π’…π’Šπ’π’ˆ, π’˜π’† π’Žπ’‚π’Œπ’† π‘΄π’†π’™π’Šπ’„π’ 𝒂 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 π’‚π’π’π’Šπ’‚π’π’„π’†..." - Zimmermann Telegram

Before the telegram, the United States had been supplying arms to Germany's enemies - a little issue called "violating the Neutrality Laws".

The reason Germany went back to unrestricted submarine warfare was that the United States was smuggling arms and ammunition to Britain on passenger ships - THIS WAS ALSO ILLEGAL.

Yes, Britain intercepted the telegram and wasted no time showing it to the Americans - because it was Britain who was trying to get the United States involved.

Any one or more of those reasons promoted by mainstream history sources are incidental to the US joining the war, but the real reason was that a deal was cut between Britain and the Zionists.

Britain was losing the war and was about to give up when a proposal was presented to them by the Zionists. In exchange for the rights to Palestine (the Balfour Declaration), they (Zionists) would bring the United States into the war on Britain's side.

It was a win-win deal for Britain. If they lost the war they wouldn't have to uphold their part of the deal.

A prominent Zionist attorney named Samuel Untermyer represented the former wife of a professor at Princeton University at the same time Wilson was a professor there. He presented a stack of morally questionable (for the day) letters that Wilson didn't want to have to explain. He sued him for $40,000, which Wilson didn't have.

Untermyer offered to pay it for him and afterward came the "favors". The first was to name the first Jewish Supreme Court Justice - Louis Brandies.

The next "favor" was to get the United States involved in the war in Europe. The history books don't deny this - they just conveniently fail to mention it.

    Hello,

I refer to the question and answer awarded β€œfavorite”.

The view of history asserted by some contributors represents a neo-Nazi revisionist version, based upon Nazi-German propaganda.

For their revisionist versions of history, falsely-alleging Zionists agreed to bring America into the war in exchange for the Balfour Declaration, such anti-Semitic contributors can provide zero objective-evidence:

Zero evidence the Balfour Declaration 1917 was based in any such alleged-agreement.

Zero evidence of any such agreement regarding the U.S. and WW1.

The United States declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917:

β€œThe [Balfour] declaration was contained in a letter dated 2 November 1917 from the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland.”

The United States declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917, and the Balfour declaration was dated November 2, 1917. While anti-Semites have no evidence supporting their revisionist history alleging Zionists agreed to bring America into the war in exchange for the Balfour Declaration, politicians being fairly cynical can be considered unlikely to have given any such β€œreward” when the event they sought had already occurred.

The likely reasons for the Balfour declaration 1917 are:

    1) The British sought to encourage enlistment of Jews.

    2) Zionist lobbying, based on the clear and just merits of restoring the Jewish national home, within its ancestral homeland of Israel (aka β€œPalestine”, the Roman-imposed rename).

    Brief historical background:

The Jewish People are the indigenous people of their ancestral homeland of Israel with unbroken presence there since Biblical times:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographic_history_...

The Jewish People have had an unbroken presence in their ancestral homeland of Israel since Biblical times, and also previous sovereign states in the land, for example the Jewish Hasmonean Kingdom of Judah (aka Judea) (including the West Bank, Gaza, and Golan Heights), with its capital of (what is now East) Jerusalem; between 110 BCE / 754 BH and 63 BCE / 706 BH:

America is considered to have entered the First World War for 3 main reasons:

    1) In January 1917 Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare after President Woodrow Wilson warned this would not be tolerated, and the sinking of seven U.S. merchant ships by German submarines.

    2) Germany invited Mexico to join the war, in the intercepted β€œZimmermann Telegram”.

    3) President Wilson argued that the war was so important that the U.S. had to have a voice in the anticipated peace conference.

Source for U.S. entry into the First World War reasons 1), 2) and 3) above - see under β€œEntry of the United States”:

Contributor β€œNonpartisan” provides a link to β€œarchive.constantcontact.com” a website allowing users to host-themselves. That webpage refers to β€œThe Hidden Tyranny” by Benjamin H. Freedman.

    - - - - Start of extract: - - - -

β€œBenjamin Harrison[1] Freedman (October 4, 1890 – May 1984)[2] was an American businessman, Holocaust denier,[3][4][5][6] and vocal anti-Zionist.[7][8] Born in a Jewish family, he converted from Judaism to Roman Catholicism.[9]”

He therefore fails to cite any objective-source for his allegation of blackmail of President Woodrow Wilson. Sources referring to β€œblackmail” in connection with the appointment by President Wilson of Louis Brandies as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, appear to be from anti-Semitic sources, apparently based in rumor.

    - - - - Start of extract: - - - -

β€œBrandeis’s [Louis Brandeis ] support of Pres. Woodrow Wilson’s theory of enforced competition among businesses was repaid on Jan. 28, 1916, when the president appointed him to the Supreme Court. Over bitter opposition by numerous business interests and anti-Semites, the nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and Brandeis took office on June 5.”

    I hope this helps.

I guess the Zimmerman telegram was part of it. Germany was proposing to Mexico that parts of Texas and New Mexico could be returned to them.
