How to make these 2 sentences better?

--Here I used the word "after" twice, is that OK?:

Last year, after 3 years of study, I completed my x degree after a battle with x illnessx.

--Here I say "many protests every single day" , It sounds childish . How to say it? :

My city has been involved in many protests every single day since x until x when the virus entered my country. .English is my 2nd language.

Thanks!!

If you want to avoid saying "after" twice, which is okay grammatically but could be improved, you could say "Last year, following three years of study, I completed my x degree after a battle with x illness."

And I would say "My city has seen daily protests since (date), when the first Covid-19 cases were reported."

Last year, after three [spell out numerals] of study, I completed my x degree after winning a battle with [illness].

There have been many protests in my city  . . .  " since x until x" -- no idea what you want to say.
