What are some historical sites that should be landmarks but are not?

Are there any areas in America with significant history but goes unacknowledged?

Most places with historic significance in the US probably have some kind of acknowledgement, but for many places it's just a roadside sign which can easily be ignored as people zip around, rather than a historic site which someone can visit and learn about the people and events associated with that site.

One example of a place with a sign but no historic site is Sojourner Truth's birthplace.  She was born into slavery in upstate New York and became an anti slavery activist.
