Consider a gas phase dehydrogenation reaction that occurs at a constant temperature of 1000 °K.

RCH2OH(g) -> RCHO(g) + H2{g). At this temperature the reaction rate constant is equal to 0.082

liters/mole-min. If the reaction takes place in a constant pressure reactor, starting with pure

gaseous alcohol at a pressure of 2 atm, find the time necessary to reach 20% decomposition:

(a) In the sense that the number of moles of alcohol in the reactor decreases by 20%.

(b) In the sense that the concentration of alcohol in the reactor decreases by 20%.

All ideal gas laws may be assumed in both cases.
