no, just undereducated and intellectually lazy.

The hypothesis that humans come in races was proven wrong some 70 years ago, when we started to compare the chromosomes of different people

Racists are considered by many people to be the root and cause of social injustice in the USA at this point in time.  Of course, racists don't think of themselves in this way.  Many racists only think this of racists whose skin tone is different from theirs.  So "villain" is not quite the right word.  The current thinking by many Americans goes well beyond simple villainy.  Many believe that rooting out racism (dunno how they propose to do that) will lead to a cure of the longstanding black-white tension and conflict that has always been so characteristic of the USA.  So that makes racists more toxic than mere villains, who only do evil.  It turns them into heretics - people whose way of thinking (whose beliefs) are inherently harmful to all Humanity - a cancer that must be excised and removed.  So, from the point of view of many Americans today, racists (at least different-coloured racists) aren't villains - they are heretics and, basically, pathogens.

Of course, this is a ridiculous line of thought.  But they believe it, nonetheless.
