Is there any difference between silk screening and using a stencil for shirts?

I have a rather simple design so I'm wondering if there's any difference as far as quality between using the professional silk screen or just using a stencil and a paint roller

Update:

I take it the silk screen allows for far more stuff like letters and stuff?  I'm literally doing a bunch of 1 to 3 inch circles

Silk screen is stenciling on steroids. It is far more exacting and permits multiple colors with precision. But it is stenciling, ultimately.

The silk-screen process is much more precise and controllable. For a simple design with average results, using a stencil can be adequate. The results with a stencil are going to depend a great deal on the experience and skill of the craftsperson.
