Will smart home devices work on shared wifi?
I'm living in an apartment complex that provides wifi. It's the sign-in type (the company is called Boingo). Will smart devices like lightbulbs with Alexa work on this shared wifi?

Experts say IoT devices should be kept on a separate Wi-Fi network, different from the ones that are used for primary devices like laptops, desktops, or smartphones. Because if you keep all the IoT equipment on a separate network, then any compromise of a smart or IoT device will not grant an attacker a direct route to a user's primary device, where most of the important data is stored and also the jumping across two networks would require considerable effort from the attacker.

depends on the device if it requires sign in then odds are you will face issues. Most of these only allow straight sign in so no username password. Easiest thing to do would be to get a wifi extender, log that into the wifi and then connect smart devices to that. plus you dont want them on the wifi as anyone could then see and try to access them.
