Are Maine hotels checking that guests have proof of being tested for Covid-19?
I'm going to Maine from Massachusetts and will try to get a Covid test results within 72 hours of arriving in the state, as they want even though we aren't sick, but there's a good chance it'll be expensive and won't get the results back in time. If not, are hotels and beaches gonna turn us away from vacationing?

It depends. My guess is the more corporate ones might, but more local ones it may be different. Even still, just book online, show up with your mask (giving the impression you are deeply concerned about the current matter), and hope that you can be checked in smoothly.

From a hotel in Maine
You can look at your hotels policies. Seems like the State of Maine is requiring a test and 14 self isolation for our of state hotel guests.

According to this: https://www.maine.gov/covid19/restartingmaine/keep...
hotels are supposed to check your paperwork.
Also, to clarify, the test needs to be conducted no more than 72 hour prior to arrival.
Your insurance should cover the test.
