How is it dumb to change, based on new and probably, better, data?

Actually then, science is smart! As we can change our minds when new information is true.

Science looks at the world and tries to make sense of it all.

mostly doesn't change. Fairly uncommon to find something that violates known knowledge these days.  We often fill in the blanks of missing knowledge but rarely totally alter what is already fairly well established.

I think the problem you have is that you don't know the difference between what is very well established and what is merely interpreted based on limited information.  We do not know everything.  Your error lies in the mistaken belief that we do.

I'm assuming that you are almost old enough to be using Y!A. Haven't YOU changed in the last decade? Does that make you dumb? Or did that happen all by itself?
