Is this sentence grammatically correct?

He elbowed past the crowd.

    Well, yes it is, but it still sounds a little odd.

    "He elbowed *through* the crowd" uses a more appropriate preposition but

    "He elbowed *his way* through the crowd" is best of all.

    Grammatically, yes; but if you're just going "past" a crowd you wouldn't need to use your elbows. You need your elbows only when you're going "through" a crowd.

    So, "he elbowed his way through the crowd".
